How Kathy Uses Her Pedego to Fill Little Free Libraries
The first bike store in Canada to carry Suomi DMACK studded winter bicycle tires.
Your Winter Riding Specialists
We’re excited to share something special for Canadian winter cyclists: Pedego Edmonton is now carrying Suomi Tyres by DMACK, making us the first bike store in Canada to offer this respected line of Finnish-made studded winter bicycle tires. According to the Suomi Tyres dealer map, Pedego Edmonton also appears to be the first dealer outside the Nordic countries to carry these bike tires.
For us, that matters. It reflects the way we choose products for our customers: carefully, thoughtfully, and with a real commitment to quality. We look long and hard for products that make sense for the way people ride here in Alberta, especially when winter conditions can be unpredictable, icy, snowy, and cold.
Built by People Who Understand Winter.
When it comes to winter cycling, it makes sense to look to the Nordic countries. Suomi Tyres are made in Lieksa, Finland, and the company’s winter tire range is designed around the realities of Nordic riding: ice, packed snow, cold pavement, freeze-thaw conditions, and long winters. Suomi Tyres highlights local production, winter-specific rubber compounds, and Finnish-made studs as key parts of its winter tire approach.
That is exactly the kind of experience we want to bring to our customers. Winter cycling is not an afterthought for us. We are passionate about cycling year-round, and winter riding is no exception.
Why Studded Winter Tires Matter
For riders who commute, run errands, ride pathways, or keep their e-bikes moving through the colder months, the right tires can make a big difference. Studded winter bike tires are designed to improve grip on icy surfaces and help riders feel more confident in slippery conditions. They can be especially helpful during Edmonton’s freeze-thaw days, when bare pavement, hard-packed snow, and unexpected ice can all show up on the same ride.
Suomi Tyres’ winter lineup includes options for city riding, touring, mountain bikes, e-bikes, cargo bikes, and winter trail riding. We will be carrying a range of studded winter tires from Suomi DMACK so customers can choose an option that suits their bike, riding style, and winter conditions.
A Winter Tire Option for Electric Cargo Bikes
One of the most exciting options is the Suomi Tyres Routa Cargo W168, a 20 x 2.8 studded e-bike tire designed to fit many 20 x 3 tire applications. That size is a popular choice for electric cargo bikes, compact utility e-bikes, and family-hauling bikes that need reliable traction through winter.
The Routa Cargo tire is designed for modern electric cargo bikes, with features such as a reinforced casing, winter rubber compound, reflective sidewalls, and Finnish-made steel studs. It is built for heavy loads, longer rides, and demanding winter conditions where stability and grip really matter.
Quality Products for Real Canadian Riding
At Pedego Edmonton, our goal is simple: bring in products we would feel confident recommending to our own riders. Suomi Tyres by DMACK fits that standard. These are winter tires from a company rooted in Finnish tire manufacturing, Nordic riding conditions, and a serious approach to grip, durability, and performance.
Being first in Canada to carry them is exciting, but the bigger story is what it means for our customers. It means more options, better access to purpose-built winter cycling gear, and another reason to keep riding when the temperature drops.
